Mason-Dixon Search Dogs (MDSD) is always in need of dedicated search and rescue (SAR) team members. Our mission is to provide highly skilled, professional K9 search teams to responsible agencies to aid in locating missing persons. Interested individuals must be willing and able to dedicate many hours to training and then maintaining skills learned.
K9 Handlers
Volunteer K9 Handlers train and handle their own dogs. MDSD will provide you with the guidance and training needed to prepare you and your K9 for the rigorous series of assessments and tests required to become a highly skilled operational team. This process can take up to two years and will require strong commitment and a significant amount of time and effort.
Flankers
Flankers are individuals that walk along with operational K9 Handlers during a search. MDSD will provide you with the guidance and training needed to prepare you for the rigorous tests required to become a highly skilled Flanker.
Skills
Flankers and K9 Handlers must be proficient in:
Land navigation skills Radio communications
CPR/First aid Scent theory
Search strategy Map & Compass GPS
